A friend of mine that lived in Staten Island wasn't crazy about the ferry. If he missed a ferry late at night, he would have to spend the next hour or so wandering the deserted streets of lower Manhattan waiting for the next ferry to arrive.
So, when one day he spotted a ferry no more than ten feet from the dock, he decided he wouldn't subject himself to an hour's wait. Gathering all his energy, he made a running leap over the dock and onto the ferry, landing with a painful thump onto his hands and knees. He may have been a little bruised but he was safe on deck!
After he had recovered from his spectacular feet and brushed himself off, he noticed a bystander curiously watching him.
"Well, I made that one, didn't I?" my friend said.
"Sure did," the bystander replied. "But you should have waited a minute or two... the ferry is just about to dock." ************************************************************
